At the end of 2005 and early 2006, most of the CDJP Ethnic Branch members took the stand to support the boycott of 2008 Beijing Olympics. Although at that time that most of them did not want to boycott China to host the 2008 Olympics but to support certain countries, like South Korea, Japan and Taiwan not to send teams to the 2008 Beijing Olympics that would be hosted by China, I believe, in whatever the manner to boycott, it was to stand for boycott. The purpose was to put pressures to the China Communist government by boycotting the 2008 Beijing Olympics to force China government to treat North Korean refugees in China humanely.
Due to the China government hasn’t changed in the North Korean refugees issue and it continues to arrest and send them back to face cruel treatment in North Korea, we should not change our stand to boycott the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Recently, several relatives of the CDJP members were rejected temporary residence card in Beijing. The reason given were that Beijing was going to host the 2008 Olympics and the CDJP members’ relatives would not pass the “security check”, and so they could not obtain temporary resident card for the year of 2008. Another incident was a CDJP member’s relative in Beijing was forced to leave and the reason given was also that Beijing would host the 2008 Olympics. And there were friends of the CDJP members in China were rejected to purchase tickets to watch Olympic games for the reason of the “security check”.
To the series of the conduct that violated the basic human rights for the reason of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, we must take action to boycott the Beijing 2008 Olympics to express our strong protest.
I believe there is no conflict between our choice to support the boycott of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the CDJP headquarters’ stand of “We Want Olympics As Well As Human Rights”. To boycott the 2008 Beijing Olympics is to force the China Communist government to improve human rights conditions in China through the 2008 Olympics events. When the CCP government has conducted more human rights violations for the reason of hosting the 2008 Beijing Olympics, we must fight back by supporting the boycott of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
We hope the CDJP overseas members all agree our stand above. Let’s cease the debate and to pressure the CCP government together, and to show our CDJP power to the CCP government.
