The Appeal
(Photo) We are ethnic Koreans live in America. We appeal to the China government publicly: The government should provide equal Chinese language education in ethnic Korean schools as the government does to ethnic Han schools.
As times progress, China born ethnic Koreans have realized that we are as an ethnic minority, we should have the same living and developing opportunities as the ethnic majority in China. Because the mainstream language in China is Han Chinese, we the ethnic minority must learn the language as much as the ethnic majority. If the language level for our ethnic minority is lower than ethnic majority, we will not be able to get equal living and development opportunities as the ethnic majority.
So far, the levels of Han Chinese language taught in ethnic Korean schools are much lower than in the ethnic Han schools. In the recent ten some years, ethnic Korean population has getting proportionally lower in the ethnic Korean populated region, and the ethnic Han, higher. The rule is that an ethnic Han school should admit ethnic Han students first. The students from ethnic Korean families have turned having no chance to enter any ethnic Han school. Students from ethnic Korean families have become no choice but to go to ethnic Korean schools.
Our issue here is not about ethnic Korean school itself. We are not demanding the ethnic Han schools to admit students from ethnic Korean families. Our issue is: The China government must consider the demand of the ethnic Korean people who wish to learn the same level of the China mainstream language. The China government must terminate the system that use Korean language in teaching and textbooks in ethnic Korean schools, and give only one or two Chinese language classes each day. The China government must provide the same level of Chinese Han language teaching in the ethnic Korean schools.
We must point out that due to the China government has paid no respect, no attention and made no changes in the recent ten some years to the China ethnic Koreans’ above demand, due to the China government makes use of the low level China mainstream language teaching in the education system, the government is oppressing the opportunities of the ethnic Koreans in living and development in China. If the China government continues to ignore the demands, more and more people, which will include ethnic Hans, will come to realize that the China government is intentionally to oppress the ethnic minorities’ to have equal opportunities in living and development in China.
We further point out, that due to the government’s system error, it has already caused the China ethnic Koreans, as a whole, lost equation living and development opportunities in China. We demand the China government to take actions to make changes immediately to satisfy our demands. The government must also apologize publicly to the ethnic Koreans and make economic compensation to the ethnic Koreans as whole.
